Italian Food in Korea

So today was the second day of the Science Fair and we were told to prepare ourselves. The office said that there would be way more people today because it was a weekend. However, it was the complete opposite. We were never busy to the point that all six of us needed to be in our booth. We got to take a lot more time talking with each kid we helped.

The highlight of the day was our lunch though. One of our student volunteers has her birthday tomorrow and since they don't really get birthday parties here, we decided to go get her a cake from the pastry place and then let her pick where we went for lunch. She decided on an Italian restaurant that was right by the office. All of us were a little concerned with how Italian food would taste in Korea. We were all greatly surprised to see that it was some of the best food we have had since we have been here. The bruschetta was AMAZING!!! I think Zach and I could have eaten that the rest of trip! I ordered a BLT pizza and besides the mayo that we didn't realize came on it... it was awesome too! Our volunteer was so happy that we paid for her lunch. They don't celebrate their birthdays here because their ages are different than ours. Everyone becomes one year older on January 1st. So they have birthdays but they don't celebrate them. It's really weird because their Korean age is older than their real age. Example: Babies are concerned 1 year old the day they are born but January 1st they gain another year. So a baby born in December is 1 and on January 1st turns 2 even thought they are really only 2 months old. Isn't that weird!? It took us a long time to figure that out! But we were happy to make her day for her...

It is still pouring rain outside and I LOVE IT!!! The river is starting to rise quickly and they told us it might even overflow if the rain keeps up like this. Zach and I are getting ready to go out with his host brother to explore a little so that is all I have for now...

Day off tomorrow..... FINALLY!!!
